App-Empfehlung: ‘Magic Earth’.

Sie kann alles, was man von einer Kartenapp erwartet: Satelliten-, Karten- und 3D-Ansicht, Turn-by-Turn-Navigation, aktuelle Verkehrslage, Offlinekarten und Öffi-Fahrpläne.

Doch vor allem beruht die kostenlose Magic-Earth-App auf dem »offenen« Kartenmaterial des Crowdsourcingprojekts OpenStreetMap (OSM). Das hat nicht nur den (ideellen) Vorteil, profitorientierten Konzernen wie Google, Apple & Co das Monopol über die Geografie — oder wenigstens die Kartografie — streitig zu machen und Informationen über unseren Aufenthaltsort vorzuenthalten. OSM ist meiner Erfahrung nach auch in Bezug auf Berücksichtigung der leider nach wie vor nicht amtlichen historisch gewachsenen Ortsnamen in Südtirol*, sowie in Präzision und Informationsreichtum unerreicht.
