A delegation of Ladins from South Tyrol and from Fodom\/Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo in Italy has visited on November, the 20th the Intergroup for traditional minorities in the European Parliament in order to explain the desire to re-unificate the three Ladin municipalities of the Province of Belluno in the Veneto region with South Tyrol. At the end of October 2007, the three Ladin municipalities of Cortina, Fodom and Col, which in 1923 were separated from South Tyrol and administratively allocated to the Veneto region, have expressed within a referendum with the convincing majority of nearly 80% their claim to be re-unificated with the autonomous Province of Bolzano\/South Tyrol. In these three municipalities, where the population since 1971 has decreased by more than a third, are living approximate 8,000 persons the half of which still are native Ladin speakers. They need urgently the minority protection which is guaranteed in South Tyrol and which they have bitterly missed since the separation from South Tyrol 85 years ago. In Italy the possibility of changing the administrative allocation (article 132 of the Constitution) is linked to very close preconditions. But on the other hand, the Council of Europe-Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (art. 16) and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages (art.7, para.1 lit.b) have recommend to the state parties, to which Italy is belonging, to regulate their administrative divisions in a manner which is fair to minorities.<\/p>\n
