Vor wenigen Tagen hatte der spanische Verteidigungsminister, Pedro Moren\u00e9s, den Katalaninnen nur sehr indirekt mit Waffengewalt gedroht, falls das Land demn\u00e4chst die Unabh\u00e4ngigkeit erkl\u00e4rt. In einem Interview mit Radio Nacional de Espa\u00f1a<\/em> (RNE) sagte er zwar, eine milit\u00e4rische Intervention in der abtr\u00fcnnigen Region sei entbehrlich, kn\u00fcpfte diese Feststellung jedoch an die Bedingung, dass \u00bballe ihren Verpflichtungen nachkommen.\u00ab<\/p>\n

Diese Aussage rief nicht nur in Katalonien, sondern in ganz Spanien gro\u00dfe Emp\u00f6rung aus. Der Widerstand gegen eine wie auch immer geartete Gewaltandrohung angesichts eines absolut friedlichen und demokratischen Prozesses erreichte nun auch das Europaparlament, wo 31 Abgeordnete von f\u00fcnf verschiedenen Fraktionen und aus 14 Mitgliedsstaaten einen gemeinsamen Protestbrief an den Verteidigungsminister unterzeichneten. Darunter \u2014 erstaunlich \u2014 auch Herbert Dorfmann von der SVP<\/abbr>. Die Abgeordneten bringen darin ihren Unmut \u00fcber die \u00c4u\u00dferungen des Ministers zum Ausdruck, fordern ihn dazu auf, seine Aussage zur\u00fcckzuziehen und w\u00fcnschen sich, dass weder mit Milit\u00e4r- noch mit Polizeigewalt gegen eine friedliche Bewegung vorgegangen wird. Abschlie\u00dfend wird die Annahme des demokratischen Willens der Katalaninnen und Katalanen als \u00bbdie beste und europ\u00e4ischste Antwort\u00ab auf die Selbstbestimmungsbestrebungen bezeichnet.<\/p>\n

Dear Mr. Moren\u00e9s, Spanish Minister of Defense,<\/p>\n

We have seen with great preoccupation your statement regarding the intervention of the army in Catalonia. We know that in the first place you refused that this should be a possibility, but we see as deeply worrying the fact that you conditioned the non-intervention to the fact “that everyone complies with its duty” in a not-very-subtle reference to Catalan politicians.<\/p>\n

We are conscious of the importance of the Catalan election for the future of Spain, but at the same time we believe that democratic challenges should be always answered with more democracy and never with the thinly veiled threat of violence.<\/p>\n

This is why we call you to rectify your statement to make clear to all Europeans that the Spanish government will not make resort to the army or the police to attack a political movement that so far has proved to be civic, peaceful and democratic at all times.<\/p>\n

We would also like to hear from you and your government that whatever the result on the election of the Catalan election on 27th September you\u2019ll respect and will not oppose the democratic will of the Catalan people. That would be the best and most European response.<\/p>\n
