Der chinesische K\u00fcnstler und Regimekritiker Ai Weiwei besuchte gestern den ehemaligen Vorsitzenden von \u00d2mnium Cultural,<\/em> Jordi Cuixart, im katalanischen Gef\u00e4ngnis Lledoners.<\/em> Dort traf er auch andere Gefangene, die im Zusammenhang mit dem Selbstbestimmungsreferendum vom 1. Oktober 2018 nach wie vor in Untersuchungshaft sitzen.<\/p>\n

Der K\u00fcnstler gab seinen Besuch selbst via Instagram<\/em> bekannt, wo er neben einem Foto, auf dem er mit Cuixart zu sehen ist, folgenden Text postete:<\/p>\n

Today I visited Jordi Cuixart in Lledoners Prison. It is hard to believe that Spain, as a state of the EU, still holds political prisoners in the 21st century. The facility might be the best penitentiary in the world, civilized and educational. The seven political prisoners are in good spirits and will defend their human rights in this democratic society.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sp\u00e4ter ver\u00f6ffentlichte \u00d2mnium Cultural<\/em> ein Video, in dem Ai Weiwei folgende Aussage macht:<\/p>\n

I think it’s quite ironic that at this time in Europe they can still hold political prisoners. They can hold the prisoners for over a year without a trial and I think that is a certainly not acceptable situation because it totally violates the essential meaning of a civilised society, a democratic society.<\/p>\n

I met Jordi an I think he is [an] amazing spirit, he’s like an artist, he is so passionate, he believes in what he believes and the prison will make him stronger, and I believe that it is a very unique opportunity for him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ai Weiwei selbst war 2011 wegen seiner Regimekritik im autorit\u00e4ren China 81 Tage ohne konkrete Anschuldigung im Gef\u00e4ngnis. In der Folge wurde ihm bis 2015 die Ausreise aus China verwehrt.<\/p>\n
