Bougainville: Klares Votum für eigenen Staat.

Vom 23. November bis zum 7. Dezember konnten die Einwohnerinnen der Pazifikinsel Bougainville über die Gründung eines eigenen Staates abstimmen. Zur Wahl stand aber auch ein deutlicher Ausbau der bereits bestehenden Autonomie innerhalb von Papua-Neuguinea.

Jetzt wurde — nach Abschluss der Auszählungshandlungen — das erstaunliche Ergebnis bekannt: Knapp 177.000 Einwohnerinnen haben sich demnach zugunsten der Separation entschieden, gut 3.000 für mehr Autonomie.

Mit 98% ist das Votum für die Eigenstaatlichkeit so klar, wie es nur sein könnte. Trotzdem hat jetzt noch das Parlament von Papua-Neuguinea in der Hauptstadt Port Moresby das letzte Wort.
