Aktion Google Maps (I).

Achtung!

Dear Mr. Snauwaert,

I am an inhabitant of South Tyrol and during the use of Google Maps I noticed there are only italian place-names for my region. Since TeleAtlas is responsible of these contents I would like to inform you about the following: Place names in South Tyrol are officially bilingual (german and italian) and in most places the german name is much more used than the italian version. As well, there are places with ladin names, which also don’t appear on your maps. However, these names are officially and publically used, also in (i.e.) tourism. That’s why I ask you to consider adding the german and ladin place names in South Tyrol to your maps urgently. This would highly enhance the usability and user friendlyness of your products as well as proof your respect for our local reality. Think about people referring to other services just because they won’t find what they are looking for on your maps, or being disappointed about their car navigation system because it’s almost useless in our region.

I hope I will soon find the missing placenames on your maps!

Thanks for your attention, sincerely

    Alternativer Mustertext:

    Dear Mr. Snauwaert,

using Google Maps I found out that official german and ladin placenames of South Tyrol (Italy) are ignored. Because of this, its content is useless to me. I hope you will change this soon, because those toponyms are largely used in my region.

Please keep me up to date about future changes!

    Respectfully

Ma “Il Muro” assolutamente no.

    Dirks Antwort:

I’ll be on a business meeting from Monday, January 22, until Friday, January 26, and will have limited access to e-mail. Best regards, Dirk Snauwaert +32/475/69.30.97

Schade, war wohl nur der Autoresponder.
Aber hoffen wir auf den 26. Januar!

Dirk ist doch da! Gerade bekomme ich folgendes Mail von ihm:

    “Dear Mister […],
Thanks for your e-mail. I have to tell you that in the Tele Atlas database all names of cities, streets, etc … in Europe are bi-lingual if on this location 2 languages are spoken. Also for South-Tirol. Proof can be given by looking into the navigation devices that use our map-data: TomTom, Mio, … Please contact Google Maps in order to address your concern. They apparently only use one language for your region. Can you please also inform your friends/neighbours in South Tirol with this information.
    Thanks and best regards, …”

Also müssten wir jetzt an Google direkt mailen…

Danke vielmals.
